Every Greek neighbourhood has its periptero — the little kiosk on the corner that sells the newspaper, the cold water, the lottery ticket and the gossip, and somehow never closes. For Greeks who made a life in Australia, it is one of the small things they miss most. So Caroline Rovithi built one on an Aussie beach.

The yellow kiosk wears a blue-and-white striped awning and a big GREECE sign, with a sign in the window that says Come in, we're always open. Around it, two worlds share the sand: a kangaroo hugging a Greek-flag heart, a surfboard planted in the shore, a boomerang and a sunshine balloon tied to an Australian-flag heart, and a cart that reads ΠΑΝΤΑ ΕΛΛΑΔΑ — always Greece. Pegged along the counter, the day's headlines say it all: Glorious. Heaven on Earth. Sun. Sea. Kefi. Inspiring.
