Article: Legendary Greek Souvlaki

Legendary Greek Souvlaki
Legendary Greek souvlaki is more than a summer favourite — it’s a ritual rooted in everyday Greek life. From ancient open-fire cooking to modern street stalls and family tables, souvlaki has always been about simplicity done well: good ingredients, shared moments, and food enjoyed slowly, together. Whether wrapped in warm pita or served straight from the grill, it carries the unmistakable flavour of Greece — sun-drenched, generous, and timeless.

The Recipe — Simple & Authentic
This is an easy, no-fuss souvlaki — the way many of us enjoy it at home.
I personally prefer pork or chicken skewers, rather than gyros. It feels cleaner, lighter, and lets the ingredients shine. (If you can make gyros at home though — even better!)
You’ll need:
– Skewers (pork or chicken)
– Pita bread
– Finely chopped tomato
– Onion mixed with parsley
– Fries
– Tzatziki or my favourite quick sauce (recipe below)

Lightly brush the pita with a little olive oil and grill it lightly.
Place the skewer on the pita, then add tomato, onion and parsley, fries, and your sauce of choice. Wrap it snugly — and you’re ready for the best homemade souvlaki.
My Favourite Sauce
Mix 2 tablespoons mayonnaise with 1 tablespoon mustard. Simple, creamy, and delicious.

Tip: Use baking paper to wrap your souvlaki — just like they do in Greece.
Καλή όρεξη!
