Walking in Hydra, a Greek-American on vacation meets an elderly Greek man sitting on a rock, sipping his ouzo, gazing intently at the sun setting over the sea.
The American notices that on the hills behind the old man there are barren olive trees. The olives are just falling, lying here and there on the ground. He asks him to whom do the trees belong to.
"They’re mine," answers the old man.
"Don't you pick the olives?" asks the American.
"I cut them when I need some," says the old man.
"But don't you understand that if you prune the trees and gather the olives in time, you will be able to sell them? In America, everyone is crazy about virgin olive oil and would pay dearly to have it."
"What shall I do with the money?" asks the old man.
"Hey, you could buy a big house and hire servants to do all the chores for you."
"And then what would I do?"
"You could do whatever you want!"
"So sit outside and drink ouzo at sunset?"
